After Flexible Sigmoidoscopy

Flexible sigmoidoscopy is performed without sedation and so patients are free to
drive themselves home after the procedure. They do not necessarily need to be
accompanied. Patients may experience some gassiness or abdominal cramps for a
few hours after the procedure. It is also not unusual to pass a small amount of blood
(a teaspoon or less) in your next one or two bowel movements. You may resume a
normal diet unless you have been instructed otherwise by Clinic staff.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR:
Contact the Clinic at (604) 730-5810 immediately if you have more than the
small amount of blood noted above or if you develop any significant or worsening
abdominal pain or distention, significant abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting, chills,
shakes or a fever after discharge from the Clinic.
